There are plenty of cheap used cars available in Scotland, but not as many as there used to be. The actual volumes of used cars on the market are at levels that are almost as low as the record low levels of used car stock seen in 2009 – more info on used cars in Scotland visit www.motors.co.uk.

The result of that glitch was a rapid increase in used car prices, however there is no indication that that is happening this time. The reason for this is that there is a lack of used car buyers and this is serving to keep a cap on prices.

Although it is relatively easy to sell a cheap used car in Scotland, the downside for the seller is that he has to accept that he will not get a particularly high price. Buyers are looking for very high value for their money and tend to reject poor quality, damaged and high mileage vehicles.

The long and the short of it is that there is insufficient demand to cause prices to rise and as a consequence buyers are becoming more picky about what cars they buy, and they are not willing to buy cars that need any work doing to them.

In Scotland there is a fine balance between the supply and demand of cheap used cars, and if you are contemplating buying one in the near future, the advice is to act now before prices start to go up as many car dealers are anticipating they might. The reason for this is that many new car buyers are lowering their sights and opting to buy nearly used vehicles rather than new ones.

Despite this, the volume of new car sales is still reasonably high, which means that in the months immediately following September there are some great cheap used car bargains to be found as dealers offload the cars that they have acquired in part exchange for new ones at bargain prices.

The demand for small economical cars is relatively high, whilst that for executive saloons and large 4x4s continues to decline.
